Associate Professor, Botany

Prof. (Dr.) Kanchan Lata working as Head, Department of Botany, NSCB Government Girls PG College Aliganj Lucknow. She has completed her Graduation from Gharwal University, Srinagar and M. Sc (Botany) from University of Allahabad, Allahabad. She qualified CSIR-JRF (Life Sciences) in December 2000. She earned her doctorate degree (D.Phil) from Department of Botany, University of Allahabad, Allahabad in 2008. She worked on Angiosperm and her topic of research was “Studies on family Asteraceae in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. She has published more than 17 research paper in reputed national and international journal. She has participated more than 30 National and international seminar/conferences and delivered about 13 research papers. She has teaching experience of 18 years in UG and PG classes.

Department of Botany

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Government Girls PG College is one of the leading institutes, which provides quality education in the science. Department of botany was established in 2005 with 44 students. At present department of botany maintains Laboratories and smart classrooms for teaching purposes, a Museum, a Departmental Library, a Microbiology laboratory for Undergraduate students and a small Botanical Garden. Department of botany is affiliated to department of botany, Lucknow University, Lucknow. The course includes diversity of lower and higher plants, economic importance, plant physiology, biochemistry, genetic engineering, biotechnology, biostatistics, genetics etc. The teacher of the department adopts innovative teaching and learning tools and techniques. Power point, audio visuals and charts are used to teach students in theory and practical classes. Interactive sessions are held regularly to solve the queries of the students. Assignments and class presentations are given to the students.

Department organises seminars, essay, poster, speech competition on relevant and important topics. Students make visits to the different research institutes in the city such as Central Drug Research Institute, National Botanical Research Institute, Indian Institute of Toxicological Research, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic plants, Sugarcane research Institute, Birbal Sahani Institute of Paleobotany etc to get research exposure. Students used to go on short excursions to nearby places to study biodiversity and its importance. Every year/ semester students of department have rank in Lucknow University, by scoring more than 70% marks. Students from the department are pursuing M Sc from various Universities and some are doing Ph D and some are making career in teaching.
